Manual Handling Workshop
Course Summary
A key component of these workshops is behaviour based through the promotion of personal responsibility for back care. This is designed to motivate the participants to undertake a positive change in their manual handling behaviour i.e. be motivated to implement suitable strategies to help prevent and manage musculoskeletal problems e.g. effective manual handling techniques, posture exercise, job planning, as well as early reporting and management.
This 5 hour course is intended for employees whose job involves a significant amount of manual handling, including frequent or repetitive handling of light loads and the handling of particularly large or heavy loads. It is also appropriate (in conjunction with the Risk Assessment for Manual Handling Course) for persons holding supervisory roles.
Course Objectives
- The Manual Handling Regulations and specifically including their personal responsibilities.
- Causes and prevention of back pain and other musculoskeletal injuries.
- Key principles of good body movement and manual handling techniques applicable to their workplace requirements.
- The procedure for identifying and assessing key factors that increase the risk of a manual handling injury in their variety of manual handling activities/situations.
- Strategies to reduce the risk of manual handling injuries including the use of ergonomics.
- Applying the HSE filter and identifying when to request a more detailed manual handling risk assessment.
