Overhead Gantry Crane 1 Day
Course Summary
This course is designed to train delegates in the safe operation and the effective use of overhead traveling cranes in the workplace. The duration of this course is dependant upon the experience of the operator and could be either one, two or three days.
In addition to the operation of the crane safe slinging principles are covered in detail.
Course Objectives
- Operate the crane safely in accordance with the manufacturer’s handbook and the accepted codes of practice.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the concepts set out in the Approved Codes of Practice.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the controls of the model of crane used during the training.

- Types of Lifting Tackle and their applications.
- Methods of Lifting and Slinging and angles of lift.
- Selecting appropriate Lifting tackle.
- Isolating faulty equipment.
- Procedures for fault reporting.
- Methods to protect loads from damage.
- Attaching lifting equipment to slings..
- Carrying out a test lift.
- How to plan a lift,
- Understand how to estimate weights and the centre of gravity.
